On Tuesday, September 9, 2025, the District is testing its emergency communication system at 10:00 AM.
Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s), The Public Schools of Northborough and Southborough prioritize school safety and preparedness through a comprehensive, collaborative approach that focuses on prevention, education, safe facilities, and disaster management. In light of the recent events in Minnesota, this commitment has never been more important, reminding us that ensuring the safety of every student and staff member requires constant vigilance, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Key Safety Practices
Controlled Building Access: All visitors must identify themselves, sign in, and wear a visitor badge.
Student Awareness Training: Through the Sandy Hook Promise “Say Something” program, students are trained to recognize warning signs, especially on social media, and report potential threats.
ALICE Protocols: All students and staff are trained and regularly drilled on Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate protocols to enhance safety readiness.
Annual Safety Training: Mandatory for all staff and students, in partnership with police and fire departments.
Employee Screening: All employees undergo CORI, SAFIS fingerprint, and SORI background checks to ensure a safe environment.
Bullying Prevention: The District maintains a Bullying Prevention and Intervention Plan and offers anonymous reporting forms on its website.
Commitment
While some security details remain confidential for safety reasons, the District remains steadfast in fostering a safe, supportive, and respectful environment for all students and staff.
As part of the District’s emergency response, communication is essential. On Tuesday, September 9, 2025, the District is testing its emergency communication system at 10:00 AM.
The communication will be: “THIS IS A TEST of The Public Schools of Northborough and Southborough emergency communication system. You should have received this message by email, text, and phone. THIS IS ONLY A TEST.”
Respectfully, Gregory L. Martineau Superintendent of Schools
